Microstock Stats – Medical Images & Formats
Posted on May 27th, 2010 in Uncategorized | 8 Comments »

We recently looked at the relationship between image format & views and downloads for Active Seniors. We’re continuing this sort of analysis across major image categories and our next series of posts will be on the top 60 medical images (Top 20 at istock, Dreamstime & Fotolia.)
Orientation vs. Views/Downloads/Conversion

Points to Note:
- Horizontal images continue to outperform the average (also true for active seniors)
- Square images have the highest views per image and perform only slightly worse than the horizontal from a downloads per image perspective
- Vertical images continue to under-perform the set average (also true for active seniors)
PS: The concept in the image above, which we’re calling ‘Happy Care’ (smiling, competent professionals & happy, relaxed patients) is by far the most popular medical theme. More stats on this in posts to come.

I like to see you examine the age of the medical professionals in best selling images…I realize this is a bit difficult except via keywords of a unreliable nature when it comes to model age. One of my pet peeves about medical images is Dr's that are too young to have completed medical training. Also since 50% of the students in medical schools are now women it's good to see women featured as doctors.
Hi Ellen,
Great points & I’ll see what I can do. I was planning on looking at doctor/patient ratio but age/gender of professionals is interesting too.

Great post. I think one of the key things in Medical Imagery is to maintain the anonymity of the "patient" model where possible (as in the shot above). Clients are sometimes hesitant to use images of models to illustrate a certain medical condition where they are identifiable.
Definitely "Happy Care" all the way, doctors need to appear warm, friendly, in control yet prepared to come down to the level of the patient and reassure them that everything is going to be alright. No one wants a Christina from Grey's Anatomy. If only all Docs were Stock Docs!
Terrific comments! The depth at which you’re thinking about this is phenomenal to see. Thanks for sharing your insight!

LOL… yes better Lexie than Christina
Thanks George for sharing these thoughts.

I never thought that I'd have to watch Grey's Anatomy to provide useful analytics on medical stock imagery….
